Our History

The history of Villa Le Corti begins in 1363, when the ancient Corsini family acquired the first plots of land in this area. A villa-farm

Since the late Middle Ages, in this magnificent part of Tuscany, the traditional cultivation of olive trees has been complemented by that of vines. With the consolidation of multiple farms, a new agricultural system emerged: alongside the main residence, all the buildings necessary for the processing and storage of products were constructed. It became a production center where the entire harvest could be brought together.
This is the so-called villa-farm system, an organizational, agricultural, and cultural model that gives the Chianti Classico landscape its unique character in the world.

Villa Le Corti represents the most complete and best-preserved example of a villa-farm, still managed today, after seven centuries, by Don Duccio and Donna Clotilde Corsini.

The Corsini family

Originally from the countryside of Poggibonsi, the Corsini family settled in Florence in the first half of the 13th century with Corsino di Bonaccolto. His son Neri, who lived between 1244 and 1325, dedicated himself to the wool and silk trade, amassing great wealth. This marked the beginning of the family’s journey, which, over nine centuries, contributed illustrious figures to Florentine, Italian, and European history in every sphere of civil, political, and religious life.

The Corsini lineage boasts personalities such as Saint Andrew Corsini (1301-1374), Pope Clement XII (1652-1740), Bartolomeo (1683-1752), Viceroy of Sicily, Don Tommaso (1835-1919), Senator of the Kingdom of Italy, and his nephew Tommaso, a Deputy of the Constituent Assembly from 1946 to 1948.

The farm

The Le Corti estate stretches along the ridge dividing the valleys of the Greve and Pesa rivers, in the northernmost part of the Chianti Classico wine region, from an altitude of 350 meters above sea level down to the valley floor areas. Overlooking the typical landscape where vineyards and olive groves alternate with extensive woodlands and scattered human settlements, the farm includes over 50 hectares dedicated to vineyards and more than 12,000 olive trees planted across 63 hectares. An equal amount of land has been left as woodland to preserve and protect the landscape and natural values, with full respect for the territory and its biodiversity.

In 1992, the Principe Corsini brand was established, which obtained organic certification in 2015.
